Story is Sheffield got it very badly last night. And, if I remember rightly, you and your mother are up above the 600 foot contour, the way Dad used to be. I suspect his house is well and truly snowed-in. I have memories of trying to get to work when Sheffield was well and truly frozen, and they are not some of my best... Keep safe.
Yes, it's about a foot deep out there. No buses, and the trains are proceeding very cautiously. I was fortunate to get home last night, I think -- the train was three quarters of an hour late into Sheffield, and I ended up sharing a taxi to with a couple of strangers, one of whom was then going to walk up the hill to my mother's road. I'm cosy enough in my flat at the bottom of the hill, but I'm going to have to go up to my mother's soon, as she has the food! I'm glad I have my knee-length boots rather than the mid-calf wellies (circa 1980).
You have much more than us. Still very little here, though the Welsh class was cancelled because the weather was bad around Corwen and Bala. But there wasn't as much snow as you have there.
Yes, we seem to have had ten inches or so in the last 36 hours -- until Monday night it was only a couple of inches, and that was starting to thaw. And it's still snowing, though not terribly fast at the moment.
Only 4cm fell in Croydon yesterday but it was enough to cause travel chaos. I took the train home from East Croydon as all busses were gridlocked. A good decision as I got home much quicker then expected in just over an hour from leaving work at 3:30pm.
Travel chaos does seem to be inversely proportional to how often it snows. About a centimetre was enough to close the schools in Tucson a couple of years ago.
Thank you! Though I do suspect the lady who was saying on the radio that we should forget the disruption and concentrate on the beauty of having a four-wheel drive, a full freezer, and no large deliveries expected in the next few days.
