There didn't seem to be many butterflies around in England, though we did start seeing more tortoiseshells, at least, the last few days I was there. This little thing is a Large Skipper, sitting still -- not something that happens very often -- at Longshaw Park last Tuesday.

[livejournal.com profile] temeres and I have both noticed it's a bad year for both butterflies and moths, though I have seen more over the last few days. The Skippers seem to be largely unaffected, and I have seen as many Commas this year as I did last (a couple) but the ones that migrate from the Continent are conspicuous by their absence. There are a good many Meadow Browns, but I have only seen a dozen or so Large Whites and I have yet to see a single Blue of any kind.
