It's not a good idea to put a CD full of high-resolution photos in the DVD player. I managed to crash the thing hard enough to require a yank-out-the-plug power cycle, and the rendering isn't great on the TV screen anyway.

There doesn't appear to be any way to copy tracks from the iPod onto a computer different from the one they originated on.

I can, but the music doesn't show up at all under those conditions. It probably is a copy protection issue.

It appears that there is a need for software to do exactly what you need to do. I've just stumbled across one called TouchCopy - no idea whether this is helpful, but it appears that many other people have seen that need, so googling might help.

Thanks! That might be useful some time. I solved the immediate problem last night by pulling the files across the network from the originating computer, which happened not to be turned on when I wanted them before.
