Cold weather has unexpected effects when it isn't a regular thing.
Last night was punctuated by loud thuds -- a fusillade of them about 2am, waking me from my first sleep, and then odd ones at roughly hourly intervals -- as the roof cooled down to somewhere below freezing. Imagine something like the sounds an oven makes as it cools down, but ten times the size.
And this morning, the cable internet wasn't working. I eventually tracked this down to a loose connection at the back of the modem, but I suspect the unusually low temperatures may have had something to with it. In the meantime, I'd drunk the whole pot of coffee without noticing. It was 55 degrees inside when I got up this, and would probably have been colder if I hadn't had the heating left on with the thermostat on the lowest setting.
