Appointment booked at US Consulate in London, thanks to my mother.
Plane tickets booked, Tucson-Manchester, with a ridiculously long layover in Altlanta, but on the whole I prefer long layovers to short ones. I'll just need to remember to take plenty of reading material. Time was when I'd crochet my way through that kind of thing, but these days the crochet kit goes in the checked luggage. In theory the TSA explicitly allows crochet hooks, but I'm not inclined to test the theory with my thin steel ones!
For the last couple of trips, my journey home has looked like this:
Taxi to the gas station where the shuttle picks up.
Shuttle to Phoenix airport.
Plane to London.
Train to central London.
Taxi across central London (formerly tube, but I eventually decided that was just not fun any more with luggage).
Train to Sheffield
Taxi from Sheffield station to home.
This time, it'll be
Taxi/van to Tucson airport
Plane to Atlanta
Plane to Manchester
Train to Sheffield
Taxi from Sheffield station to home
This is actually simpler, on paper, and it avoids having to deal with Heathrow. (Of the two London terminals I've used, I much prefer Gatwick. Heathrow is woefully short on places to sit in the departure lounge, even if it is rather more closer to central London.) The plane fare is a little higher, but with the shorter ground legs it's just about a wash.
