We had rain this afternoon -- just a little. We walked out for afternoon coffee surrounded by rumbling thunder, through wind like the breath of an oven and the pelting of fat cold raindrops. By the time we came out of the coffee shop again, the rain was done and the sidewalks were as dry as if it had never happened.
I hear the high temperature yesterday was a record-breaking 110F -- no wonder I was grumbling about the heat!
I found three barrel cactus flowers today, one red, one yellow, and one striped. They tend to grow about three feet high, so they make much more convenient subjects than, say, saguaros, but they present their own challenges; the petals are so smooth that the autofocus tends to slip right off them and fasten on the surrounding spines instead. It's amazing how much it improves my mood to have pretty things to look at.
(Yes, I do plan to share, but I want to keep something in reserve for Friday!)
