The final installment of this month's Amazon haul has come in: McKillip's Od Magic and Judith Tarr's Avaryan Resplendent. The former is the usual beautiful little book -- though, oddly, half an inch taller than the others -- with pretty, pretty cover art, the back almost as interesting as the front; the latter is a reprise of this month's theme of sequels to things I read when I was very young. I remember reading the final volume of the first Avaryan trilogy on the train to and from Lichfield, which can't have been later than 1989. I've been eying this omnibus volume of the sequel trilogy for a while, and finally decided I had room for it in the schedule. (The whole schedule thing may be breaking down soon anyway; I've shrunk the backlog to the point -- 30 -- where my backbrain has decided the remaining books on it are a scarce resource and need to be hoarded. Also, I need somehow to arrange to have three mmpbs for the trip home in early August. On the other hand, bookshelf space is also becoming scarce again, and purging only goes so far.)
