Just heard this bad news from Tucson on BBC radio.

Not "shot dead", but shot in the head can't be good.

Edit: And some media are reporting her death, according to Twitter. This is just awful. Edit2: Reports of the Congresswoman's death now definitely seem to have been exaggerated; latest is that she's out of surgery in critical condition.

I had never heard of this lady, but according to filkertom she was actually on several Tea Party (supposedly joking!)'hit lists', including Palin's.

She's still alive as of now. Was talking while being wheeled into surgery. Waiting for press conference now.

Gunman young, white, extremely well armed (eyewitness report--official media aren't saying).

She was on Palin's "gunsight" list. Which has just suddenly, you know, disappeared.

The thing about having online friends all over the place is that when something happens in a far flung corner of the globe, you're more likely to know someone with a personal involvement, even if it's only the fact that they lived nearby.

Looking at the news item now, it seems that one of the dead was a nine-year-old girl. Such sad news...
