I had a list of things I needed to get done today. It did not include either washing a week's worth of dishes (because the dishwasher died again) or de-hairing the beater bar on the vacuum (because I managed to get yarn wound around it, and once it was off for unwinding I might as well tackle the hair issue too.)

On the other hand, I've packed, picked up a few groceries, vacuumed, paid the gas bill, updated Cygwin and the LJarchive copies of both my journals, looked into the possibility of getting short-term mobile broadband for my UK trip (which looks as though it may indeed be a possibility), checked in for tomorrow's flight, picked up the mail, and taken out the trash. Still need to clean the kitchen and bathroom, at least enough to render them respectable for the maintenance guys.

One-off mobile broadband isn't cheap, but it's a good solution. I'm using Orange mobile broadband, and I get decent reception most places, and no more outages than I got with BT. IIRC, you can check on the websites (or have the shops check for you) whether you are going to get good reception where you most want to be, in your case presumably your parents' house.

Yes, I looked up the coverage for 3, and it looks as though my mother's house is right on the corner of a patch of 'good' with 'very good' coverage on two sides. Not that I really think the waves go by square boundaries; it probably has more to do with the slope of the terrain. I might even be able to use the dongle on my Eee.

(I used to use Compuserve dialup when I went home, but that went away last month, and I'm reluctant to use my mother's Freeserve too much.)
