Today was overcast, warm and close when it wasn't windy. I nearly missed out on my lunchtime photo-session because the memory stick got left behind in the computer, but decided it was worth going back for it, between the second flush on the hibiscus bushes and the orchid trees. It was decidedly sticky out, though. Northerners who think 70 is warm tend to get funny looks in these parts, but I sympathize to some extent.
Towards evening, the clouds lifted a little, allowing for a fine sunset with pink glow spreading across most of the sky.
The demolition work on the hospital next door seems to have been stalled for the last month or two, leaving the shell of the main block almost intact, but today there was some equipment there again. Some time over the weekend, vandals sprayed red scribble over most of the remaining walls, and maybe smashed the windows a bit more. The place is an eyesore, really, and I wish they'd get on with knocking the rest of it down. They may be waiting until the trees can be moved; there are some palms right up against the building. Just before the hospital went under for the last time, there was a purported rescue deal at Christmas time, and the staff went mad with fairy lights in celebration, adorning the trunks with spirals of brightness. Alas, it later turned out the rescue was an illusion, if not downright fraudulent; there wasn't any money, and the hospital closed within a few more months. The contents were sold off in a glorified yard-sale that went on for weeks. I didn't investigate; I couldn't bring myself to fancy used furnishings that had been in a hospital.
