Oct. 10th, 2007 06:29 pmI sometimes wonder how people with only one computer manage at all, these days. (Admittedly, the more one has, the more likely it becomes that the file or functionality one particularly wants will be on one of the others!) I currently have three in reasonable working order -- the little work laptop, the shiny and temperamental desktop, and the lumbering Behemoth laptop. I managed to walk out of the door this morning without the little laptop, so I came home after lunch and plugged it into the peripheral hub to get some work done. Then I decided to run a backup while I had it hooked up to the external drive, hoping that in the meantime I could fire up the desktop and use it with the secondary keyboard (usually used only for login purposes) and the spare mouse plugged into the front USB port. No dice. The mouse -- the mouse the thing shipped with, mark you -- is 'unrecognized hardware,' and my keyboard-navigation skills have proved inadequate to the challenge of helping it find its driver. So here I am, whimpering my frustration to the internet at large on the third computer.
There are worse problems to have, I know. But it would be nice if all this plug-and-play stuff actually worked as advertised.
