The Winter Gardens make a little semi-tropical oasis in central Sheffield, between the Victorian town hall and the crop of recent development that sprouted where the 1970s town hall extension used to be.
The UCSC Arboretum has a number of passion flowers growing with no glass, and information about which passion flowers do what locally. But down in town I notice that the purple and magenta ones do not set fruit and the blue ones do, and also have more bees.
I've seen one (purple) growing outdoors in London, but London is quite a bit warmer than Sheffield, and I didn't have my camera with me at the time.
The Winter Garden is one of the Millennium Project upgrades, opened in 2003, and one of the more widely loved of the many changes to the city center in the last several decades.
