Yes, I have a new default icon. Fond as I was of the waterlily, it seemed silly to keep using it when I had so many better flower pictures. (I'm not entirely happy with the tenses in that sentence.)
We attended an interesting seminar this afternoon, all about Titan. There was lots of chemistry. Apparently 'ammonia water' is a useful concept for understanding some of the surface features, as it is more viscous and has a much lower melting point than pure H2O. The Huygens probe made a beautiful spiral as it came into land, presumably because of the different winds close to the surface, and ended up landing in a spot for which there are no good images from the descent, but they've figured out pretty much where it was. Still plenty of riddles. Maybe we'll hear more at the AGU meeting in May.
Yesterday, though I hope nobody would have known it from my posts, I was not in a good mood despite the lovely weather. Today there was a grey-brown haze veiling the mountains, but I have taken care of various things I'd been putting off, and feel better for it. I banked half a dozen assorted checks, filed two expense claims and one travel request, bought groceries, and emptied the dishwasher; I also worked a bit on tidying and polishing a paper that might be getting close to finished. The prospect of taking yet another trip in less than two weeks seems less dismaying than it did.
