Plane and train tickets obtained. Card issuer reassured.
I have succumbed to the temptation of British Airways again. I haven't quite trusted them since I got caught up in the 2003 Heathrow strike and narrowly avoided the 2004 one, but it's the only way to get a nonstop flight to London, and the price was semi-reasonable, whereas AA offered a bewildering variety of options for changing in Chicago or Dallas for somewhat more money. Also, it's just so much more homelike than an American carrier -- they have tea in actual cups with dinner, so it feels as if I'm home as soon as I get on the plane.
The train part was interesting; the system helpfully suggested that it might be cheaper to get two singles {US one way] than a return [US round-trip], and indeed it was -- barely half the price. I have no idea why.
