According to the thermostat, it's only about 80 degrees in the apartment at the moment. I don't care; I'm still too hot. (She typed on a computer not known for running cool, while drinking hot coffee.) It's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow, too, though they've been backing off a bit on the original 109F estimate.

Has everyone on my f-list been stunned into silence by the Permanent Account Sale ([livejournal.com profile] lj_biz) and accompanying ongoing drama, or what?

On the positive side, I may get my S3.1 Voyage DVDs tomorrow; the tracking claims they're in town. And Robin McKinley has a new (children's') book coming out in September, according to Amazon.

My Voyage DVDs haven't even been shipped yet. Unless I can take a half day from wotk on the day they're released, I usually get them on the weekend, from Best Buy -- there's no way I'm heading out onto the highway after work and fighting rush hour northern NJ traffic. I'd end up getting home three hours later.

But I had an idea they'd be sold out by the time I got to Best Buy, so I ordered from Amazon -- something I swore I'd never do again after the hash they made of my pre-orders of Rat Patrol season one and the first volume of Voyage last year (I pre-ordered and pre-paid, and people who ordered long after I did got theirs long after I did. I had several 'discussions' with Amazon's customer service, who did nothing but rationalize their poor shipping policies). But Rat Patrol was impossible to find when it was released, so I ordered from Amazon -- and had the set 4 days after I ordered it - so I did the same with Voyage. It still hasn't shipped yet.

After the problems I had getting Rat Patrol Season 1 and Voyage Volume 1, I swore I'd never order DVDs from Amazon again. The only reason I ordered Rat Patrol Season 2 from Amazon is that Best Buy had it for full price -- $39.99 (or so two of their stores told me when I called last week -- we never received a circular the previous Friday, and it wasn't listed in the online circular at all) as opposed to $27.99 on Amazon. I ordered Friday -- I had it Tuesday.

I ordered Voyage on Saturday afternoon because work was going to be so busy this week, I knew I'd never get an afternoon off, and I didn't want to deal with getting a rain check from BB (they can be such idiots when it comes to giving them out - I can't tell you how many times I've had to go to a supervisor to get one). I figured that since I'd already gotten notification that my RP DVDs had shipped, Voyage would ship quickly, too.

WRONG.

As of a half hour ago, mine still hadn't processed. I called the number that a friend on the Seaview Yahoogroups list so kindly provided, and got through to a human being. After several rounds of explaining what had happened, and telling them that people who had ordered after me had already received their sets (the girl I spoke to actually finished my sentence for me when I started to say this, so they must get this complaint often), she offered to upgrade my shipping to overnight -- and I'll have them on Monday (doggone weekend gets in the way).

It -is- positive (especially since I got no help with the last batch of Voyage DVDs, which came three weeks after release, though they sent the first season RP set 2-day air). It's disappointing, since I see so many people reporting stellar service from Amazon regarding their DVD orders. It's the complete opposite of the way they always treat my book orders.

Permanent account kerfuffle?

I knew they'd opened the permanent accounts up again, but haven't seen any associated drama anywhere. What's up?

I know about the deleted LJs and communities, but I haven't seen any comments about the permanent accounts. Must go looking.
