General updatery; five random things

I've watched the first three episodes of Firefly and enjoyed them as gritty escapism; I doubt it's going to become my favorite show ever, though.

The trouble with wearing a new necklace today was that I had to explain at least twice that I didn't buy it in Hawaii.

My protagonist is getting infodumped on by everyone she meets. It's a quick way for me to find out how the world works, but sometimes it raises more questions than answers. I think this one is going to need a fairly serious second pass to integrate all the background.

I have three more new dresses, courtesy of Sears.com. Two of them are exactly what I had in mind for everyday hot-summer wear; the third is fussier than it looked in the online picture, and not really suitable for 100-degree weather, but pretty enough that I don't think I'll be returning it.

It's hot. Also dry. Pretty standard for the time of year, but not my idea of fun.
