With all due respect to those currently suffering ice and snow, it's been a lovely day here -- blue sky with fluffy white clouds and gentle breezes. I undertook a reconnaissance mission to the recently-opened Trader Joe's, and came back the long way around by the river, spotting a sandy-coloured ground squirrel as it slipped back into its burrow. Spoils included a tub of figs, some interesting cereal, and a box of frozen lamb chops. I grew up on lamb, and it's hard to find here, so I'm rather pleased.
I've upgraded to Firefox 1.0.1. The ad-blocking of the original had been wearing a little thin, the last week or two; the new version seems to catch all the ads on the CNN site again. No doubt this will become an endless arms race, just like spyware and viruses but with slightly more right on the other side.
Laundry has been done and put away, and the bed reconstituted. Also I ran the dishwasher, but that was about the limit of my domesticity today. At least the suitcase is no longer in the middle of the bedroom floor.
In other news, I've embarked on reading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell; so far I'm about a third of the way through, and enjoying it. It reminds me of all sorts of things, few of them written within the last fifty years. It is a rather unwieldy physical object, though -- I'd have got farther last night if it had been possible to read with my head on the pillow.
