Another serendipitous cactus flower

I don't know what it is about this year that's bringing out things that I've never seen in flower before, but I found another one today, this one just across the road from the office, awkwardly placed but a bit more accessible than last week's.

In our area we've had many wet years and this is the first dry year, so I expect some amazing flowers. I think plants flower the most when they're generally healthy but they have reason to be worried.

Well, this winter was dry but not as dry as last year. The January frosts might have something to do with it, I suppose. These aren't a native species, anyway.
