Mar. 19th, 2007 08:04 pmI bought a new skirt on Saturday, and it makes me happy.
It has three tiers, and it's exactly the right length and width, just above the ankle and wide enough to stride out or twirl around in but not so voluminous as to get in the way when I sit down. (I hate getting my hem caught under the wheels of my office chair, though I'll live with it for the other advantages of long skirts.) It has an interesting texture, with little flowers embroidered in shiny thread all over crinkled fabric; and it's a gorgeous pale coffee colour, almost exactly the shade of the coffee I used to drink as a child, made by adding about half a teaspoonful of instant granules to a cup of hot milk. (It's a north-of-England thing; perhaps a specifically north-midlands, working-class thing.)
It's so nice to be able to find pretty summer skirts again, though in the drought years I did discover that capri/cropped pants are very comfortable.
