26,101 words. It turns out that my mean composition rate, when not particularly inspired, is about five words a minute. This is very close to, or just slightly faster than, the rate at which I can enter words into the Palm via stylus, so the keyboard is really only necessary when I'm on a roll. I just cannot do the completely uninhibited stream-of-consciousness thing in fiction; the internal grammar checker, at least, is firmly stuck in the 'on' position, if somewhat cowed by the MSword one. (I'm questioning my own comma use a lot these days; maybe I need to start reading grammar and usage books again.) On the other hand, the current thing is going to need a lot of editing after the fact. There are lots of lazy dialog tags in there, and some scenes that seem to be in the wrong POV -- including, possibly, the current one, which I was several hundred words into before it acquired a POV at all, as it's mostly dialog.
In unrelated news, it looks as though I am indeed going to Stanford next month.
