I decided not to take a laptop to Phoenix this weekend, but instead to rely on the combination of my trusty (and still almost pristine) composition book, a thumb drive, and possible borrowing of my hosts' computer, to absorb any words that might occur.
So of course I couldn't find any of my thumb drives. I did eventually run the 1G Cruzer Micro to earth in the pocket of my brown blazer, along with $15 and a hair elastic, the original flaky LexMark thing in a trinket box, and the 64Mb VSO freebie in the computer bag, but the other three micros are nowhere to be found, which is annoying. (The multiplicity is because I used to use them for music, before the excuse-for-an-MP3-player fell apart on the Denmark trip and I bought the iPod.) I've checked all the computer bags and purses I can find, as well as various trinket boxes, and found nothing but pens and a mysterious container of 0.5mm pencil leads. I'm beginning to wonder if I left them in a safe place in Sheffield, or possibly tucked them into one of the conference bags that got left behind there at the last minute.
