I'm interested to note that though I own quite a bit of Mozart, it doesn't overlap that much with the list. I really ought to index the CD collection one of these days, so I can shop a bit more systematically.

Also, though I own Also sprach Zarathrustra, I've never actually played it. I bought it after hearing the piece at a concert, but I'm completely intimidated by it.

I guess I don't have the Charpentier, and that number from Il Trovatore. All the rest I have, either in sheet music or recordings, and most of them in both. Wait, the Passacaglia from the Boccherini? Weird choice. I have the well-known Boccherini minuet, and I don't know if it's from the same quintet or another. Some strange choices, period. Well, it's different from the average meme, which is nice.

I ended up (as they say) taking it back to my own nest, and found that I wasn't quite correct in my assessment above, finding another track or two I wasn't sure of having.

Cathy said that meant they were upstairs in the attic and I didn't know I had them. She could be right.

The well known Boccherini Minuet is from String Quintet in E, which is a different piece altogether. (The track from Il Travatore is better known as the Anvil Chorus.)

That was originally my list, as you seem to have discovered. My list of favorite complete pieces would be somewhat different, considering that I rated the tracks on how they stand alone, not on the basis of the whole piece -- except, of course, when the track happens to be the whole piece.

At any rate, the fact that these were rated by track (and the whole tip-of-the-iceberg experience of just grabbing the top 90 of 2530 tracks) along with my quirky tastes in general is probably what gives this particular list its character (such as it is). I'm sure, though, that my list of favorite pieces would be nearly as quirky.

I added a comment to my own post on the subject this morning, indicating my favorite non-original versions of the selected pieces. Turns out I have alternate versions of just about all of them.
