I went to the Lenscrafters in the mall, got myself tested, picked out new frames, and collected the new glasses by the end of the afternoon. It turns out that my eyes are basically healthy, the astigmatism is slightly worse, as is the near-sightedness (which meant that the ancient spare pair was actually closer to right than the ones that broke, as the last couple of prescriptions went the other way), and I don't yet need bifocals/separate reading glasses but probably will in a couple of years. I ended up with polycarbonate lenses, because the glass ones would have taken a couple of weeks, and frames that are slightly smaller than my old ones but big enough to still feel like me. I like them, I think.
I also treated myself to a small selection of clip-on earrings from the Macy's sale, and a new pair of slippers, as it's the season for them.
The laptop took advantage of being left online all afternoon to download IE7, which I have no particular intention of using but let it install anyway.
