So ST:Enterprise is being cancelled. Is it really going on twenty years of back-to-back Star Trek? I can't say the cancellation fills me with great dismay, though I've faithfully watched the show for old times' sake. Enterprise always seemed rather drab, visually and dramatically, in spite of desperate sweeps-related efforts to spice it up, and took itself too seriously. Voyager was silly but enjoyable; DS9 had its good points, though I missed the last few seasons because I moved across the Atlantic at a bad time and never got back into it. The last three or four seasons of TNG fueled some great parties in my postdoc days; one member of the group had his parents tape the epsisodes in the US, and we all -- half a dozen postgrads and postdocs -- gathered in his apartment to watch six or seven at a time on his multi-format VCR, mocking the silly science, enjoying the spectacle, and amazed by the frequency of the commercial breaks.
