This is the cactus under the dead boojum tree, which has all its flowers at once, for a day or maybe two. This year the flowers were there on Monday, gone on Tuesday.

I know I haven't had much to say for myself this week. There just hasn't been much to say. I haven't been doing anything useful to the novel; I think I need to rip out or rejig a bit before I can carry on. (If I could just get a good head of steam going, I think it's within sight of the end, for values of within sight that would take a couple more months to reach at my recent rate of progress.) You'd think that my typing would have improved with all the writing I've done in the last fifteen months or so, but in fact I seem to be slightly slower -- down to about fifty words a minute, with lousy accuracy.

I do have one good thing to note, though; this morning the running-water noises in my bathroom walls, which have been driving me buggy for the last several months, finally stopped. There was some banging around in one of the adjacent empty apartments -- next door or below, I'm not sure which -- and then blissful silence.

Tomorrow I have packing and cleaning and paying of rent and booking of a ride to the airport; Sunday I'll be off early. Writing is probably not going to happen in any systematic fashion next week either, though I'll have the Eee along.

Mission Statement

Reading, writing, plant photography, and the small details of my life, with digressions into science and computing.
