Dec. 23rd, 2007 08:27 pmI have just taken my first loaf of banana bread out of the oven. It rose, it smells wonderful, and if it turns out of the pan in one piece I shall consider it a complete success. (Though I notice that the lower middle of my oven seems to be running a little hotter than it says on the knob.)
It's funny, though. Something about the ritual of baking leaves me with the atavistic urge to hand-wash the utensils afterwards. Normally I don't do much hand-washing of dishes, because I have nowhere to drain them, so it means wiping each one dry as it's washed, which isn't a very efficient procedure, but once I'm in the baking headspace I don't mind it at all. (And the banana bread used both my mixing bowls and the large measuring cup I use for a small bowl, so if I want to try ginger-snaps tomorrow I had to do something about it!)
