Sep. 4th, 2007 07:54 pmThis is me, being determinedly thankful that I did in fact get home, and did not get roasted or entirely eaten alive by mosquitoes along the way, and have a nice tidy apartment to come home to and groceries in the fridge. The fact that I waited well over half an hour for the bus is not really a huge problem; nor is the fact that I managed to spill coffee grounds all over the kitchen counter and floor, nor the plastic box with a few slimy mushroom pieces from July that I found at the back of the fridge.
Also, new computer tomorrow, I hope, though I'm not sure how I'm getting it home, as both the people who would ordinarily have been happy to help are out of town.
It occurs to me, belatedly, that getting a Vista machine this early on is rather against my usual habit; I bought my first Win95 machine in 1997, my first Win98 in 2000, and my first XP in 2004, and I have no idea how well, if at all, my usual collection of freeware is going to run on the new box. As I'm not intending to depend on this machine for day-job purposes, however, and any old thing that produces .doc files will do for the writing, I'm not too bothered; I can look at it as an adventure. (And I mean to get Google Earth! I haven't, so far, mostly for disk-space reasons.)
A couple of random bits from the weekend: a Ford Excursion with a vanity plate reading 'WHAT MPG'; and a couple of young men brandishing a three-foot python around the volleyball court when I got home on Sunday evening.
