Jul. 5th, 2005
109F today, 11% humidity, still barely a cloud in the sky. The five-day forecast shows a slow cooling trend, but I don't trust it; I've had a strong suspicion for years that the dominant element in the fifth day of the five-day forecast is the mean for the time of year. At least I have AC that can pull the apartment down from 90 to 80 in an hour or so. And if I close the bedroom door, it should be reasonably cool in there by bedtime.
Armed with the shiny new passport, I'm working on plans that involve leaving for home on the 29th and squeezing in a working visit to Colorado between now and then. Mad summer rush, here we come again. It isn't as bad as last year, when I shoehorned a week in Colorado into the two-week gap between an East-coast conference and a six-week trip home. I'm probably going to regret not being more domesticated over the weekend, though. And, of all things, a clothes-shopping trip wouldn't hurt.
In the meantime, I'm contemplating a large Amazon order, one that would recharge the backlog with interesting paperbacks suitable for travelling.
