ellarien: doily (crochet)
It seems counterintuitive, but the patterns that give me the most trouble seem to be the ones involving large expanses of single crochet. I think I may have to rip out the last few rows of the current doily again; I can't see where I picked up a couple of extra stitches, but I have my suspicions.
ellarien: Yellow cactus flower (golden)
I have acquired (from that sometimes surprisingly useful Terminal 2 bookstore/newsstand at Sky Harbor) a rather nice book on Arizona wildflowers, and have been able to put tentative names to some of my photos. So, for starters, here are a few relabellings from earlier this year;

Purple Daisies -- Machaeranthera? Machaeranthera?

Though rather ahead of its advertized time, and not a very good specimen. The leaves look right, anyway.
Desert Marigold Desert Marigold

I think, though Golden Crownbeard also has rather similar flowers, and the leaves aren't clear in the photo.
Rambling Milkweed Rambling Milkweed

This vine, with its tiny purple flowers, was twined around the red prickly pear plants.

Sorting out the chollas and prickly pears may take a bit longer, particularly as some of the ones around here might well be somewhat domesticated ...
