An unusual phenomenon was seen over Tucson for a couple of hours around noon today -- a very fine halo around the sun. Usually these are caused by ice crystals high in the atmosphere. Ice crystals? Over Tucson in June?

Your pictures always brighten up my day, but that one is terrific! I don't think the crop matters. The top of the palm tree trunk and the tree to the right are on the golden mean. The palm cut off at the bottom echoes the almost complete halo. I reckon that a complete circle, taken from below, wouldn't have made as good a picture because you couldn't have got the palm exactly central, and its trunk would have split the rim anyhow.
