I'm in Sheffield, safe and sound if rather sleep-deprived. The spring greens in the woods are amazing, and there's hawthorn blossom everywhere. I was greeted at my mother's house by a magnificent display of pink azalea blossom, and spent the next several minutes making photos while the sun shone.

The journey went smoothly, and I had a rather nice time in the Dallas airport; here's what I typed while waiting there.

Dallas, 5.40pm May 24th

I'm typing this in the Dallas airport, though it won't get uploaded until I get home.

I thought I knew Dallas-Fort Worth -- crowded, low-ceilinged, a bit dark, a bit dingy. What's more, the buzz in the hallways at work lately has been to avoid the place if at all possible. However, this time I'm in terminal D, and it's amazing. It's brand new, light and airy and spacious. It has artwork: roundels of colourful mosaic; a steel sculpture the size of a house, like a cross between a crazy-angled castle and a cluster of tourmaline crystals. Just being in it lifts my spirits. I was wandering around thinking it just needed a bookstore, and then I not only found one, but found a book in it that I wanted -- Spin, by Robert Charles Wilson, in paperback. It doesn't have much in the way of accessible outlets, unfortunately, but I did eventually find one.

I picked up a new toy at the Tucson airport --- a Rubik-style cube, but with the squares on each face numbered 1-9 in black on white, calling itself a 'SudoKube' and obviously cashing in on the Sudoku craze. I haven't mixed it up yet, thoug; I'm a bit brain-fried after a bad night.
