ellarien: claret cup cactus flower (spring)

Not even sick, just grumpy, struggling with allergies and odd side-effects of being a female of a certain age, and frustrated at my utter failure to do anything either useful or fun over the weekend.

Interesting lighting effects on the way home this evening; fiery pink sunset on the left, dimly orange-lit mountains ahead, a few drops of rain on the windshield, and about a third of a rainbow on the right.

Everything is flowering like crazy; the air is so sweet I can almost taste it. Hedgehog cactus flowers are amazing; the plants are small, spiny, and unprepossessing, but for a couple of weeks a year they put out these flowers, two or three inches across, with waxy, translucent magenta petals and white-gold stamens.

Mission Statement

Reading, writing, plant photography, and the small details of my life, with digressions into science and computing.
