I must have walked three or four miles today, in the course of which I saw Pride and Prejudice (of which more anon) and finished off my Christmas shopping, bar a little candy.
Now my arms are sore. I also have a lot of crocheting to do if I want to finish that baby afghan by Friday afternoon.
In other news, I think I need a new vacuum cleaner. The old one just isn't doing anything useful. It's possible that this might be improved if I could source a replacement filter and figure out where to fit it, but I'm deeply disenchanted with the thing anyway. My main cleaning problem is hair -- mine -- which is long and gets everywhere and winds around and around the brush roller until the machine won't pick up any more. I'd be much happier with a canister machine that carries its own weight and lets me do the sweeping bit, regardless of the conventional wisdom that uprights are better on carpet. My mother has been using canisters (or cylinders, as we call them in the UK) for more than forty years, and I got much better results with mine than I ever have with the upright. It occurred to me yesterday that the easiest thing would be to order on-line, as vacuum cleaners fall into that awkward gap between what I can manage to get home on the bus and what stores will deliver.
