Sunday, I think

I'm getting to the stage of not being sure which continent or time zone I'm in, so this may not be very coherent.
I took the laptop up to BestBuy, where they confirmed my diagnosis of a dead hard drive. (And noted the machine's condition as 'dirty and slightly scratched', which I thought was a bit harsh. Grubby, maybe, certainly not factory-fresh -- it's been in fairly heavy use for nearly eighteen months, after all -- but I wouldn't have gone as far as dirty.) It's likely to take a week or three, so I guess I'm stuck with Old Laptop for a bit. Anyway, they had a sign up offering to back up 4Gb of data on a DVD for the bargain price of 'only $89.' This strikes me as verging on rip-off territory -- can't you get a burner of your own for about twice that these days? Burning one DVD is maybe ten minutes actual work and half an hour's use of the equipment.
