Yesterday, we hit (and passed) 100 degrees for the first time this year, an occurrence known locally as 'icebreak on the Rillito'. (The Rillito is the local river, not known for having water in it at this time of year, let alone ice.) Today, it was scheduled to be even hotter. I went out for groceries about 9.30, and it was already hot enough; the stray cat my neighbour feeds, which usually skitters away when I open my door, was lying bonelessly in the shade.

Desktop is now steadfastly refusing to share anything with the other computers on my home network, though it has no trouble seeing the outside world. I suspect this is connected to my having installed the AOL software on it. It's a nuisance, particularly as the printer is hooked up to the desktop, but in the presence of USB flash drives not a disaster.

I think I've done as much cleaning as I'm going to. I've also turned off the furnace, which won't be needed again until at least October, and put my winter shoes in the closet. My suitcase is mostly packed. I still need to pick out a crochet pattern, burn my talk on a CD, recharge the camera, and do a couple of work-related things.

I'm leaving in the morning for a week in New Orleans. Updates may be scarce between now and Friday, depending on how much internet I can scrounge while I'm there.
