More Spring

It was foggy and drizzly and dismal again today, and I didn't bother taking the real camera into town. But the trees in the Peace Garden -- something of the apple persuasion, I suspect -- were covered in blossom, so I did what I could with the phone. I'm coming to the conclusion that the phone camera may actually be optimized for moderate close-ups in good light. The light was not great today, but this didn't come out too badly, I think.

That's a rather a good shot of that blossom! You could be right about the way the phone camera is optimised. I think I also recall reading somewhere that overcast is actually good for photographing flowers and for portraits because it avoids harsh shadows and strong contrasts.

There's very little flowering round here yet in the way of wild flowers, but there was lots of blossom in London at the weekend.

I'm still readjusting to the softer light here, after years of dealing with the harsh Arizona sun. (Lots of shots were spoiled by the distinct shadow of the camera, and sometimes I'd resort to deliberately standing in my own light to get gentler illumination on a cactus flower.) And last time I lived here I was still using cheap film cameras that didn't do close-ups and didn't get great results on cloudy days.
