I was dozing through an interview with P.D. James on the radio this morning, in the manner in which the interview becomes a conversation in which I keep trying to interrupt and being talked over and ignored. Then the interviewer asked me for the name of the hero of my current WIP. I hedged by saying there were too many male characters and I wouldn't call any of them the hero, and then went on confidently, "but there is a female character I'd call the protagonist," ... and then found I couldn't remember her name.

I remembered the name as soon as I woke up properly, but it was a scary moment. Next year I really need to get back to that poor neglected story.
