It's been another 100-degree plus day, but I went shopping for fall clothes anyway. Inside the air-conditioned mall it wasn't too unbearable to think about sweaters and long pants. I didn't do too badly, though Sears, my usual resort, was still firmly in summer-clearance mode.
The final haul: one gray pant-suit, one gray skirt that almost matches the suit jacket; one embroidered ivory skirt; one purple skirt and matching purple cardigan; one deep red and one cream-with-embroidered-flowers knit shirt with three-quarter sleeves. I think I hit the right generation, at least, but I've never been very good at navigating American stores. At one point I wandered by accident into a corner of Dillards that was a bit above my touch and found myself contemplating a suit (or maybe just a jacket) with a price tag in the high three figures. I put it down and backed away in a hurry.
It will be a few weeks before I can think about wearing any of that, I suspect.
