why do the ones 'for women' (which are exactly the same size and shape as the regular ones) need to be fluorescent pink?
That is a remarkably interesting question. I've noticed generally that it is assumed that either things for women must be coloured pink, or else that there must be special 'pink' editions of things for women. Quite often I notice they're also associated with breast cancer charities, so I'm stuck in this double-bind of disliking pink intensely as a colour, plus hating the assumption that all women like pink, and appearing like a meanie if I refuse to sport the notebook, the ribbon, the laptop in solidarity.
