Well, this afternoon's return trip from Phoenix was a great deal pleasanter than the last one; not only was the weather perfect for a walk across the campus, the city bus was just late enough for me to catch it even though I wasn't expecting to.

The composition-book-and-thumb-drive solution to Saturday's writing needs worked fine, and netted me 645 words; tonight's 522 I did in more conventional fashion. Ambassador (the story formerly known as Undone) now stands at 16598 words, and at a crossroads; do I send a flying saucer in shooting, or not?

There's a hoarding on the interstate for a 'master planned community' called Gladden Farms. Somehow, I don't think I'd want to live there.

Update

Hah. In principle, Louise could fly out of Beijing one morning, get to Tokyo in time for a late lunch (3.5 hour flight), give an afternoon lecture, and fly to Honolulu the same evening (6.5 hour flight), getting there early in the morning of the same calendar day. I don't know why, being a seasoned traveler and generally sensible person, she'd do that to herself, but she could, and it would certainly explain why she's in a bit of the state afterwards.
