It's been a wet, cold day, but it wasn't storming particularly hard half an hour ago, when the power suddenly went out -- to the accompaniment of loud bangs from outside -- and stayed out for about a quarter of an hour. It came back just as I was starting to feel chilly, but that was disconcerting; I've lived here for over nine years, and this is the first time I remember losing power for more than a minute.

My external hard drive was running at the time, but it seems to have survived.
