Well, I've been back for a week, give or take a few hours. I can't really claim jetlag any more, but I'm still tired, and still having trouble slotting back into routine after the last few crazy months. I've been doing way too much sudoku, some with mechanical or electronic assistance, and my ability to concentrate on complicated TV shows has suffered.
I'm afraid NBC's Heroes lost my interest about five minutes in, and I flicked back to CNN.
The weather has been glorious, but today was a bit too warm for comfort and also a little humid, with clouds piling up in the afternoon. There aren't many flowers, alas -- a few barrel cactus, a few chorisia blooms, and a lot of colourful but not very photogenic bird-of-paradise bush. The time of letting the grass die seems to have arrived, soon to be followed by the seeding of the winter rye grass; it's not a good season for admiring landscaping, in spite of the wonderful light.
I want my sidewalk back -- at the moment my usual northbound bus-stop is gone altogether and the southbound one is inaccessible due to the disappearance of half a block of sidewalk in the last phase of the construction just down the street. This is not a particularly happy combination with shortening days that mean I'm coming home after dusk.
I have yet more books. Next year's pickings look a bit slim so far, though, so I won't drive myself nuts trying to read them all in a month.
