After several days of intermittent rain and short, sometimes wet walks, culminating in yesterday's jaunt around the Botanical Gardens during which it was at one point sunny and raining quite hard at the same time, we took advantage of a fine day to visit the gardens at Chatsworth. They're in the throes of installing an exhibition of modern sculpture, which is disposed around the gardens in various more or less carefully chosen locations. We were rather taken by a dish of polished steel, mirror-finished on both sides if not quite optical-quality on the concave side, set up by the Canal Pond; I also rather liked the boat full of bright flame-coloured glass lilies.
