Hotel curiosities
Oct. 19th, 2010 05:52 pmI like this hotel a lot, but there a couple of things that strike me as mildly odd.
One is the balustrade under one of my windows, which looks from the ground like a balcony, but isn't -- there's empty air (and a three-story drop to the ground) between it and the wall.
The other is the little notice that says, "For your safety, please return your key cards to the front desk on check-out." For my safety? What, they're rigged to explode the day after they expire? Or the staff will hunt me down and kill me if I walk off with them? The only remotely logical explanation I can think of is that there's some personal information encoded on there that could be bad if it was carelessly discarded and fell into the wrong hands -- but I've seen discussions over on
hotel_workers that seem to imply that it doesn't work that way despite the suspicions of some guests -- which mostly manifest in refusing to give the keys back. So I dunno.
