High temperature today; 88 degrees F; also clouds, wind, a rather pathetic attempt at rain, and a brief partial rainbow this evening. I actually felt a little chilly waiting for my bus, with a nominal temperature of 75 degrees but a lot of wind. I got home, put on a cardigan, and then realized that the thermostat thermometer was reading 85, which is the point at which I usually cave and turn the thermostat down far enough to let the air conditioning kick in. (I'm weird about heating and cooling, by local standards; I still have the old-fashioned British notion that it's wasteful to heat (or, by extension, cool) space that doesn't have anyone around or awake to enjoy it, and I can't stand fan noise and draughts when I'm trying to sleep, so I routinely shove the thermostat up to its highest setting in summer, or down to its lowest in winter, before I go to bed or leave for the day.)
I spotted a yellow barrel cactus flower this lunchtime.
And my protagonist has a brain, which is nice to know. Maybe she'll discover a spine, soon.
