I don't dust as often as I should, but sometimes I really get into it. Today I've been dusting everything in sight, and it does make a difference to the general look of the place. I even went to the lengths of dismantling my plate-sized arrangement of glass drops, pebbles, and candles and dusting every individual drop and pebble in it. Next: vacuuming, which I hate because it's noisy and the plug won't stay in the outlets and the vacuum cleaner doesn't pick up anything to speak of anyway. I miss my old English vacuum, the prone-cylinder kind. That was reasonably light, and I didn't have to move the whole thing with every stroke. I've never much liked upright vacuums, but that was all that was available in my price range when I went looking in Target back in 1998, so here we are.

This winter I'm trying to be a good little consumer and keep my thermostat no higher than 70C. I know that in most places that would be decadently high, but around here, the outside temperature doesn't even go that low at night for nearly half the year, and I'm acclimated enough after eight years of that to be permanently chilly. Maybe I should have gone with my first thought and laid in some velour leisure suits for around-the-house wear, but at the point when I was shopping the daytime highs were still hitting 90 and it was hard to imagine I'd ever actually want to wear them.
