I really didn't intend to walk all the way to the mall and back this afternoon, but the bus there whipped past without even slowing down to check for people at the stop, and I just missed the bus back. There's only one bus an hour and it takes maybe forty minutes to walk, so I did. In between, I went to the furniture store and paced around the home-office area for a while counting on my fingers, and finally ordered two 24"x72" units, one 24"x36", and a nice little file-drawers+cupboard unit. Let the white melamine fall where it may; I think I can fit at least two of those into the bedroom, anyway. Now I just need CD folder pages that work in a filing cabinet, which certainly ought to exist.

Then I went over to the mall, where I utterly failed to find any clothes I wanted to wear. A plum velvet blazer was tempting, but not, with the filmy black lace cuffs, appealing enough to overcome its impracticality.

The walk along the river bank was quite pleasant. The broom bushes in the river bed are very green at the moment, and at one spot seemed to be positively teeming with scurrying life. I glimpsed at least one rabbit, and I don't think all the rest of the rustling could have been accounted for by birds. On the way back I almost tripped over a couple of rabbits, and some kind of small raptor flew overhead, low enough to show off its lovely barred plumage.

I had a brief conversation with a woman walking her dog, on the way home. "Did you come here with your husband?" she asked. I boggled a bit. "No, I came here to work."

It was cunning of NBC to rerun the first two episodes of Surface this evening. I think I may be hooked.
