Random stuff
Sep. 14th, 2005 07:00 pmSomething rather odd happened just now: for a minute or so, I was getting a Blogger 404 page when I tried to get to LiveJournal. Also, a couple of times in the last couple of days, the nielsenhayden.com domain seems to have been confusing itself with a much less interesting family-type blog.
Anyone else been having trouble? Or is it just Old Laptop and the flakiness of Firefox on Win98?
(Edit: probably the latter, judging by a recurrence with a different domain just now. Sigh.)
Google has done it again: Google Blogsearch; thanks to the BBC for the pointer.
The only thing that surprised me about today's announcement that Delta and Northwest have declared bankruptcy is that they weren't already there. I did think that the 'Airline bloodbath' banner on the CNN web page was rather over-the-top and unfortunate, particularly at this time of year.
The weather has been really pleasant, with high temperatures in the 90's and no humidity to speak of: monsoon season is over, and fall is not too far off. The breeze has a touch of coolness in it, more often than not -- a pleasant change from the furnace-blast of the first phase of summer.
I think I'm gaining on the jetlag, but not very fast. Last night I crashed hard about 10pm, and slept right through until the alarm, which is progress of a sort. I'm not sure I'll last that long tonight: I'm losing words and letters as I type this.
I was idly window-shopping laptops today. As far as I can tell, they're getting slower: at least, neither Dell nor Sony seem to be offering anything over 2GHz, whereas eighteen months ago there were plenty of 2.8 and even 3GHz models around. Maybe, being big and heavy and power-hungry, they didn't sell well enough?
