The California storms haven't hit here yet, and today was the sort of mild, sunny, slightly moist day that my British instincts insist on parsing as spring. There's even a tree on the corner across from the office doing a convincing imitation of tiny green leaves, and the cassia bushes are in bloom.
I wonder if the crocuses are out yet, in that corner under the trees on the Birmingham campus. I miss crocuses, though not as painfully as I did the first winter in the bleak East End when I could get them by riding the tube over to Kew. The vegetation here has its own wonders, but it doesn't run to spring bulbs.
