Umm ... Thud?

546 words, opening of ... something; a sentence that's been haunting me for a year or so, and suddenly, this afternoon, accreted a couple of characters and half an idea.


The ceiling, meanwhile, is still leaking, a few drops at a time. I'd probably better move my current-reading shelf out of the splatter zone. No sign that maintenance has been here yet. Probably just as well, considering the state of the place this morning.

It pains me to report

that I have sighted a Windows XP error message exhorting me (unnecessarily, I might add) to 'Please log off of Windows'.
